  Claude d'Aspremont

(Université Catholique de Louvain)

Abstract: The seminar will exploit some results given in a recent book (written with Rodolphe Dos Santos Ferreira) providing a methodology for the analysis of oligopolistic markets from an equilibrium viewpoint, considering competition within and between groups of firms, and proposing a well-founded measure of competitive toughness that can be used in empirically relevant applications. It will be shown how this methodology simplifies general equilibrium approaches to oligopolistic competition, leading to new insights and perspectives in analyzing competition policy issues, such as the role of collusive firm behavior and other managerial attitudes on unemployment, investment and innovation.
